Although they account for less than 5 per cent of the total volume of cargo exported, air transport services play a crucial role in the transport of high-value items and capital goods. Globally, more than one – third of the value of goods traded internationally is transported by air and therefore the Air Cargo industry is considered as a barometer of Global Economic Health. There is a significant untapped potential for air-cargo in India. With manufacturing coupled with global outsourcing business models coming forward in India, this will continue to push demand for Air cargo business in India as it aids in faster movement of raw materials, components, parts and spares help firms in maintaining lower inventories.
India is poised to experience a rapid upswing in the business aviation sector due to its strategic geographic location, favourable demographics and robust economic growth. The general aviation (GA) market in India is expected to grow at 10%* per annum, as per the report by the Working Group of the 12th Five Year Plan. Today business jets are being seen for their increase in productivity rather than as a luxury. With our government now permitting 100% FDI, there is a lot of scope in the GA sector in services such as air charter, luxury charters, pilgrimage charters, air ambulances etc.
