AEROENGINE DESIGN, ASSEMBLY AND MANUFACTURING

Engines are the heart of any aircraft, and their making is a complex technology, which is protectively owned by just 5 countries – the US, Britain, Canada, France and Russia. There has been a huge gap in the sector of aeroengine design and manufacture when compared to the total aircraft manufacture. Only few countries had been able to bridge that gap while others still import the engine.

At present many of India’s public agencies and laboratories such as the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), National Aerospace Laboratories, and a few players in the private sector have their own activities to develop engines for small and pilot-less planes, trainer aircraft and helicopters.

In a Joint Venture partnership with Motor Sich, AAL is ready to join India’s quest to successfully design and develop an indigenous gas turbine engine that can meaningfully power military and civilian aircrafts and thus enhance, its aero-engine production capability.

AAL aspires to design and manufacture its own aero engine models in collaboration with Motor Sich. “Motor Sich”, is a Ukrainian aero-engine manufacturing facility established in 1907, for airplanes and helicopters as well as industrial gas turbine installations with its history that extends back over 100 years and applications in more than 100 countries worldwide. They produce modern aeroengines for aircraft vehicles of various applications, as well as handle their production and repair processes. Motor sich in a variety of aero-engine models such as: Turboprop model; Turbofan model; Turbo-prop-fan model; Turbo shaft models and Auxiliary power units.

AAL hopes to see its engine models on Antonov aircrafts and enter the Asia-Pacific market. Designing our own aero engines will give us better scope and capability to support component design, systems design, installation & instrumentation across the product life cycle and thus reduce the product development cost.
